In some ways, this investigation was very much like the previous episode, in that local belief and folklore influenced a lot of the interpretations. While I applaud the notion of exploring other ways of thinking about the paranormal, there is a point where logic and reason have to hold sway.

I think it’s safe to say that this will go down as the most controversial episode in the “Ghost Hunters” franchise yet. In the commentary for the previous episode, the mid-season premiere, I mentioned that the cast chemistry just didn’t seem to be there yet. I also felt that there was a distinct lack of energy. Hurricane Who is a fan-run group that organizes “Doctor Who” events in the Orlando, Florida area.

This episode definitely highlights the difference in tone, though I can’t help but think that the editing was designed to maximize the creepy. Barry is in full force in this episode, lacing everything with folklore and such that has little or no basis in the actual reports or experiences of the team. I would say that the investigation in New Zealand put things in a lot more perspective. It’s very easy for those of us in the United States and other parts of the world, mired in economic, political, and military struggles, to forget about some of the devastating natural disasters that have struck the world in recent years.
